Mark Wahlberg has had more than a few box office bombs in his career. Deepwater Horizon and The Lovely Bones are just two examples of movies that failed to make back their budget, despite being superb films. Now, another of Wahlberg’s misfires is set to disappear from free streaming next month, and while it wasn’t a flop in the traditional sense, the sci-fi action thriller definitely left a lot to be desired.

Hitting Paramount+ on June 10, 2021, Infinite stars Wahlberg as Evan McCauley, a troubled man plagued by memories of places he’s never visited and skills he’s never learned. Initially set for a theatrical release, Infinite went straight to streaming thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, and, as such, it never had the chance to become a box office flop. For all intents and purposes, though, it was definitely a disappointment.
Also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor (Backrooms, The Life of Chuck), Infinite sees Wahlberg’s character eventually recruited by a secret group called, well, Infinites. They’re people who have been reincarnated over and over again, but instead of starting fresh, they’ve managed to retain all their memories and skills, becoming increasingly more powerful. Some want to use their gifts for the betterment of the world, and others want the cycle to end, even if it means destroying humanity in the process.
While it seems like an interesting concept on paper, Infinite failed in almost every conceivable way in its execution. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Michael), the film holds just a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning it the dreaded green splat. Called everything from “an endless exercise in suspense-free filmmaking” to “brainless,” audiences were also fairly critical of the movie, giving it just a 33% score on the Popcornmeter.
Perhaps the biggest problem with Infinite is that it felt like several other (and better) movies mashed together, instead of bringing something fresh to the genre. It has shades of everything from The Matrix to Highlander in it, and for someone who has directed some of the best action thrillers around, the film really didn’t have a lot of memorable sequences. Maybe it’s best, then, that it is being wiped from at least one free streaming service next month.
‘Infinite’ Says Goodbye to Tubi Next Month
Currently, Infinite can be streamed for free on Tubi in the United States, but all that will change next month. The film is set to depart the free streaming service on Oct. 1, along with a host of other films including American Gangster, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, The Mummy, and Sylvester Stallone’s First Blood.
You can currently catch Wahlberg starring in the historical crime thriller, By Any Means, and in the Prime Video action comedy, Balls Up. Look for him to appear next in Weekend Warriors, which is slated to hit Apple TV either late this year or early next.
