Along with the other Telugu films released last weekend, Epic – First Semester has also turned out to be a major flop.
Starring Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya, the film generated decent pre-release business, mainly because of the blockbuster success of their previous film, Baby. The project was also backed by Sithara Entertainments.
However, Epic managed to collect only around Rs 5.5 crore in the Telugu states during its four-day run.
The film reportedly needed another Rs 12 crore or so to reach the break-even mark. That now appears highly unlikely, as its theatrical run has almost come to an end after the first weekend.
Producer Naga Vamsi has reportedly assured distributors that their losses will be adjusted through his upcoming films.
For producers like Naga Vamsi, who release several films every year, distributors generally have some cushion even when one film fails, as losses can sometimes be adjusted through business from future releases.
However, the failure of Epic is a setback for its lead actors.
Both Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya had built considerable expectations around their careers following the success of Baby. The poor performance of Epic could affect their market to some extent.
