Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone’s friendly banter continues. The two actresses have known each other for years and share a close friendship. While fans often get to witness the pair’s playful back-and-forth, Lawrence recently took a friendly jab at Stone when a fan asked who she was.
Lawrence already appears to be having fun on Instagram, just days after making her social media debut. The actress’ first post came as a warning to her followers, as she announced she would leave the platform if she witnessed any negativity.
The Hunger Games star appeared makeup-free to record the message. She said, “So yeah, I’m giving [Instagram] a shot, and if anyone says anything negative, I will quit. Immediately. No questions asked.” The 36-year-old continued to warn her fans, saying, “If anyone thinks something mean, I’ll know—I’ll know, and I’ll quit.”
An Instagram user then asked Lawrence who she was in the post’s comments. The user named @tracydubb wrote, “Does anyone know who this woman is??” J. Law replied, “A woman with one less Oscar than Emma Stone.”
Lawrence’s reply itself got more than 37,000 likes. Fans praised her for her “hilarious” reply. One of them wrote, “omg mother has spoken.” “We are getting you that second oscar soon, mother. TRUST,” wrote another fan.
The actress won an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook. Stone, meanwhile, has two Academy Awards for La La Land and Poor Things. Despite the playful Oscar comparison, the two have continued to joke about their careers and friendship.
According to Hola!, Lawrence had a Q&A session with Josh Horowitz at the 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall earlier this year, where she admitted she wanted one of Stone’s roles. “The one that I wanted that she got was Easy A,” Lawrence said of Stone’s breakthrough role.
She continued, “I was nuts for Easy A, and I really should have gotten it, right?” “The movie could have turned out great,” Lawrence joked. The 36-year-old took the banter ahead by sharing a group chat incident that also included Stone.
Lawrence joked that she was unhappy about Stone’s SAG Award nomination for Bugonia. She joked that Stone’s nomination bothered her because she had not been nominated for her role in Die My Love.
While all other friends in the group chat congratulated the Cruella star, all Lawrence sent was a sad face. Whenever Stone tried to talk to her afterward, Lawrence would ask why she was not apologizing. “If you can talk, why are you not so sorry?” Lawrence said.
The Red Sparrow star soon clarified that there was no bad blood between her and her close pal. Instead, she said it was an “honor” to be outpaced by Stone in her career.
Lawrence once revealed that her friendship with Stone also began with banter. According to Vanity Fair, she once recalled that Woody Harrelson played the mediator between the two women. He gave Stone her number, and the actress later texted her.
“She texted me that she got my number from Woody,” J. Law recalled. However, her reply was not something Stone may have expected. She said, “I replied, ‘F— off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”
