Manchester United and Brighton face off at Old Trafford on Wednesday night with a spot in the Carabao Cup fourth round up for grabs.
The Red Devils come into the clash on the back of their controversial 1-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday with VAR allowing Erling Haaland’s goal to stand when it shouldn’t have.
England’s officiating body, Pro Ref, issued an apology to United for their mistake and Michael Carrick will be hoping his side can put the Manchester derby defeat behind them and bounce back against Brighton.
United have won two, drawn one and lost two of their five outings in all competitions this season as Carrick’s men look to challenge on all fronts. The Red Devils will be hoping to lift the Carabao Cup for the first time since their 2023 success.
Brighton, who will be juggling domestic and Europa Conference League football this season, hammered Coventry 5-0 on the road on Sunday to leave them fourth in the Premier League and just five points off top after four games.
The Seagulls haven’t made it past the Carabao Cup fourth round in the last 11 seasons and Brighton are still hoping to lift their first piece of major silverware.
