The bar has been on the main Broad Street strip for decades but has now gone for good
A popular bar on Birmingham’s main nightspot street has closed for good.
The Aussie-themed Walkabout in Broad Street shut on Saturday, September 12, after a Last Party Night with ‘One Last Night to Make Some Walkabout Memories’.
The sports bar/club venue has been in Birmingham since 1996 and sits almost opposite the Black Sabbath Bridge over the heart of the city’s canal network.

Walkabout coupled big screens showing football and cricket and became a late-night club-style venue with DJs at weekends.
But despite its prominent location and established name on the city’s Broad Street strip it has now gone for good.

There were once around 50 Walkabouts around the country but now just seven remain.
The Lichfield Walkabout closed and became Bar Home last year.
Stonegate Group, the chain’s owner, said the Birmingham venue was ‘no longer commercially viable’.

A spokeswoman for Walkabout, Birmingham said: “The hospitality sector continues to face significant challenges.
“After careful consideration, and despite our best efforts, the site is no longer commercially viable and we have taken the difficult decision to close Walkabout, Birmingham.
“We would like to thank our hard-working team for their commitment and dedication.
“We would also like to thank our guests and the local community for their support over the years.”

Asked what was happening to the staff employed at the Birmingham Walkabout Stonegate said: “We have redeployed the majority of the team into other Stonegate venues.”
The company runs both managed venues and those run independently by tenants.
