Chrissy Metz Addresses GLP-1 Criticism

Chrissy Metz is seeing changes from GLP-1s, and the opinions are pouring in.

The actress, who became a household name as Kate Pearson on NBC’s “This Is Us,” has been candid about once being skeptical of GLP-1 medications before ultimately deciding to try one herself.

Now, after seeing changes she says have benefited her, Chrissy Metz is addressing the backlash and explaining why she refuses to second-guess a decision she made for herself.

Chrissy Metz is seeing the upside of her GLP-1 journey, and naturally, people have opinions. The actress has now made it clear that the commentary coming from the sidelines is not going to dictate how she feels about a decision that has become deeply personal.

Metz acknowledged that criticism is inevitable when someone in the public eye makes a visible change. Whether it is what someone wears, how they look, or the choices they make, she said there will always be somebody ready to weigh in. In her words:

“I mean, people are going to criticize you no matter what you do, no matter what you say, how you dress, what you look like — thin, overweight, mid-size, whatever. Somebody’s always going to have something to say, and that’s OK. They’re entitled to their opinions.”

But instead of getting caught up in the noise, Metz is choosing to focus on her own experience. For her, the biggest point is that what works for one person may not work for another, and that realization has completely changed how she views the medication.

From Skeptic To Giving GLP-1 A Shot

Metz was once firmly in the skeptical camp. She admitted that she thought she would never take a GLP-1, but extensive research, conversations with friends, and learning more about the treatment eventually made her rethink that position.

According to Us Magazine, Metz said the medication has been far more beneficial than she expected, with mild and manageable side effects and significant improvements in her labs and blood work. She also said she feels more mobile, sleeps better, and has been able to quiet what she described as obsessive thoughts about food.

That shift in perspective has left Metz feeling empowered rather than regretful. After spending so long convinced GLP-1s were not for her, she now says taking the time to educate herself helped take away the fear and gave her confidence in the choice she ultimately made.

Chrissy Metz Wants Her GLP-1 Choice To Open A Bigger Conversation

Metz is not just talking about her GLP-1 journey to defend a personal decision. She also hopes being open about her experience will encourage other people to stop letting fear of judgment dictate the choices they make for their own lives.

Rather than telling anyone else what they should do, Metz said she wants her story to spark more honest conversations around the options people consider when they are trying to change their lives.

She pointed to the pressure people can feel from worrying about what others will say, even when they are searching for something that could bring them more joy or fulfillment.

For Metz, that is part of what makes the experience so meaningful. After once approaching GLP-1s with a firm “No, no, no, no, no,” she now hopes her willingness to share the journey can help someone else feel less afraid to explore an option that could be right for them.

A Family Tragedy Put Health In A Different Light

Metz’s decision to explore GLP-1s did not happen in a vacuum. Behind her thoughts about health is a deeply personal family history that has influenced the way she thinks about her own future and the choices she makes for her body.

The Blast reported that Metz has spoken about her father’s death from sepsis following gastric bypass surgery and how that experience has stayed with her. She explained that she is determined to avoid a similar outcome and questioned whether GLP-1s could have made a difference for him.

That history helps put her current mindset into sharper focus. Metz has emphasized that her goal is not simply about the number on a scale, but about staying healthy, strong, and mobile as she gets older, giving her latest decision a much more personal layer.

Those struggles around weight did not begin with Hollywood or GLP-1s. The actress has been open about the painful way her stepfather treated her over her weight when she was growing up.

She recalled being “weighed” in the kitchen and said he would sometimes threaten to lock the cupboards, experiences that left her feeling singled out and questioning why her weight seemed so closely tied to her worth.

Metz has said that the emotional impact of those experiences stayed with her long after childhood. She described feeling unworthy and later recognized how the experience contributed to her becoming a “people pleaser” and peacemaker, patterns she continues to process as an adult.

Still, Metz has worked to understand what happened without ignoring the pain it caused. She said therapy helped her process those feelings and that healing those old wounds has not been easy, giving even more context to why conversations about weight, health, and other people’s opinions can hit so close to home.

Could Chrissy Metz’s decision to speak openly about her GLP-1 journey be another step in taking back control of a story that has followed her for years?
