The President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards at a ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. The ceremony marked the first time in 72 years that the National Film Awards were presented outside Delhi.
Article 370 (Hindi) was named Best Feature Film, while Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor in a Leading Role award. Yami Gautam won the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for Article 370.
Veteran actor Anant Nag was conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
The recipients in the Swarna Kamal categories receive a cash prize of Rs.3 lakh, while winners in the Rajat Kamal categories are awarded Rs.2 lakh each.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, given for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema, comprises a Swarna Kamal, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs.15 lakh.
