Primetime, the new A24 film from Lance Oppenheim chronicling Chris Hansen’s infamous 2000s TV program To Catch a Predator, hits theaters today (September 25). Robert Pattinson portrays Hansen, with Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers co-starring. As it turns out, Bridgers recorded a new song for the movie as part of its soundtrack, too. “On Video” isn’t just a one-off single that was tacked onto the movie. Bridgers composed it specifically for Primetime, drawing influence from composer Ari Balouzian’s original score. Her song functions as the end credits theme.
Primetime is Bridgers’ first role as a movie cast member, but it technically isn’t her debut film appearance; in 2024, she made a cameo as herself in Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow.
Last month, Bridgers made her long-awaited return as a solo artist with Lost Weekend, her third solo LP and first in six years, following 2020’s Punisher. She’s currently on an extensive headlining tour in support of Lost Weekend, and she has invited some of the album’s collaborators to help her bring it to life onstage. At her Brooklyn stop, which coincided with Primetime release day, she staged a surprise Boygenius mini-show with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, playing “Not Strong Enough” and “Cool About It.”
