“Garu” apparently has a special meaning when it comes to music composer Thaman and lyricist Ramajogayya Sastry.
At the launch of the “Narayanamma” song from Aadarsha Kutumbam, Thaman jokingly questioned Ramajogayya for addressing him as “garu”. “Why garu, why ‘garlu’ for us?” he quipped.
Thaman went on to joke that Ramajogayya uses the formal “garu” only when he is upset with him or when the lyrics are not audible. His comment drew attention because of the playful equation the two share.
The exchange appeared to be nothing more than friendly banter between the composer and lyricist, who have worked together on several projects. Rather than suggesting any disagreement, Thaman’s remarks seemed to be an attempt to pull Ramajogayya’s leg and turn a formal address into an inside joke.
For now, the sudden “garu” appears to be less about a serious issue and more about the duo having some fun with each other.
