Game Of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest Sets Summer 2029 Release

What do you get when you take the director of several of the best episodes of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, the writer of several of the best episodes of Andor, and then set them both loose on Game Of Thrones‘ first ever big-screen outing? It’s a tantalising prospect even just to consider. And, per Variety‘s reporting, on June 6, 2029 we are going to find out folks, as that is the date that Game Of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest — Warner Bros.’ long-mooted Thronesian prequel feature — is officially set to arrive in cinemas.

Aegon’s Conquest is set to be directed by Owen Harris — the man behind Thrones spin-off A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms‘ stunning fifth episode, ‘Trial Of The Seven’ — from a screenplay by Beau Willimon, whose penchant for penning pieces filled with politicking has been well-evidenced in Andor‘s Narkina-5 and early Season 2 Ghorman arcs. Plot specifics on the duo’s film are being kept pretty firmly under wraps at this point, but we do know that the movie, set hundreds of years before Thrones itself, will centre around the, well, conquest of Aegon I, the OG Targaryen and tyrant from whom all else — House Of The Dragon‘s family feuders, AKOTSK‘s Egg (short, of course, for Aegon), and eventually one Daenerys Targaryen — originate.

Suffice it to say that while we don’t know how exactly Aegon’s Conquest will shake out, this probably won’t be a heartwarming, carefree jaunt to Westeros from Harris and Willimon. But with House Of The Dragon set to end after its forthcoming fourth season, a release date for the fantasy franchise’s blockbuster bow — coupled with A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms‘ second season to look forward to in the coming months and a West End transfer of Thrones play The Mad King — leaves us happily assured there’s plenty more fire and blood (and hopefully not Hedge Knights pooping on trees) in our near future. Good times!
