Two international paparazzi photographers were reportedly spotted outside the new school of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security team spotted them and noted down the car’s license plate. According to Newsweek, the vehicle was a rental.
However, they weren’t believed to be British press photographers. The sightings came just weeks after Archie and Lilibet switched schools. The kids left their U.K. school after just two days. The family spoke with their security team, with the daily school run being the main concern.
Archie and Lilibet then had a taster day at another school. They started there full-time on September 15. There have also been reports of stricter privacy rules at the new school. According to Page Six, parents received guidance about taking photos of school events. They were reportedly told not to photograph their own children.
This came after Markle’s phone numbers were allegedly shared in parents’ WhatsApp groups at the previous school. According to the same outlet, some parents reportedly questioned the new rules. One parent even called them “complete overkill.” It also followed as Earl Spencer talked about the paparazzi treatment of his late sister, Princess Diana.
Speaking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Spencer recalled how photographers once tried to provoke Diana. He said they would shout offensive remarks at her to get a reaction. Those reactions could then be used in stories about her. “I don’t think that happens anymore in London.”
Spencer also said some former editors later admitted their role in pursuing Diana. “The general conduct of the press, you know, even the worst editors at the time who were paying the paparazzi to pursue Diana even into that final tunnel in Paris, they learned something years later,” he said.
“And some of them have actually confessed; they know they had a hand in her death. Now, that’s quite a big thing to live with, and I think it did change the behavior, and it’s not as bad now,” Spencer added.
Diana died in a Paris car crash in August 1997 after the Mercedes carrying her, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul crashed in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Contemporary police reporting said their car was being followed by paparazzi photographers on motorcycles.
Spencer has also defended Harry and Markle over the personal attacks they’ve faced. Speaking to Canada’s CBC, he said fame doesn’t justify cruel treatment. “I don’t care how famous someone is, you cannot justify vicious personal attacks,” Spencer said.
“It’s not OK. Diana suffered it. I see Harry and Meghan suffered it.” Harry and Markle have now spent just over a month back in Britain. So far, much of their new life has appeared through Markle’s Instagram.
Her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen has also shared glimpses of their life in the Cotswolds. Zajfen posted photos from a Cotswolds pub visit with Markle and her young son. The venue was later identified as The Falkland Arms in Great Tew.
