The new Dark Chocolate Chilli Tortillas have divided opinion

Shoppers have been left divided by M&S’s new chocolate-coated tortilla chips, as some brand them a ‘crime’ and others declare they’re ‘heavenly’. TV broadcaster Dan Walker tweeted to show his love for the controversial Dark Chocolate Chilli Tortillas.
He said: “Who has tried these from M&S? Dear me, they are OFF THE SCALE good. Snack heaven.”
The 150g bags hit shelves earlier this month as part of the supermarket’s festive snack range. M&S’s website describes them as being ‘seasoned with fiery habanero chilli’ and coated with ‘rich dark chocolate for a smooth finish and a lingering kick’.
In a Facebook post M&S explained the unusual snack, which are suitable for vegetarians, are ‘back by popular demand’. However not everyone agreed with Dan’s glowing review, with some social media users branding them a ‘war crime’ and ‘not an ideal combination’.
One commented: “I saw them yesterday and they looked like a war crime.” A second said: “Dear Lord, is there nothing they won’t douse in chocolate at M&S?”
A third added: “Doesn’t sound like an ideal combination. More like something designed to make tortillas palatable.” A fourth wrote: “I love chocolate pretzels but I’m not sure about these!”
However, one said: “20/10 genius invention.” Another wrote: “I think that’s going on my food list for Christmas.” A third said: “Wifey asked if they are gluten free, the fool! They will be mine, all mine!!! Mwah haha (evil laugh!).”
M&S commented: “Love this! I can’t get enough of them myself. We’ll pass the praise on to the team. Although we can’t promise they won’t get even more carried away with the snacks now.”
The festive snack range is recognisable from the packaging’s red colour and snowflake-looking pattern. Other snacks are Milk Chocolate Cinnamon Tortilla Rolls, Cinnamon Churros Twists, Milk Chocolate Coated Crispy Chilli Peanuts, Aberdeen Angus Beef Mustard Crisps and Collection Lobster Crisps. M&S have been contacted for comment.
