Glossy legal drama starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller
Year: 2026
This starry eight-part legal drama feels like a more glossy version of The Split, with Dominic West and Sienna Miller as the soon-to-be-exes on either side of a vicious divorce fight.
War has been conceived as an anthology show, with each series focusing on a different case – handy for swapping in big actors who don’t want to commit for the long term – and is played through the eyes of the legal firms involved. For them, of course, the bigger and longer the fight the better, and the lawyers on this show relish the pantomime of pretending they want a peaceful solution. ‘There is no such thing as an amicable outcome… not at this price point,’ muse two of them over a huge boardroom table.
Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne are the two firms going head to head in London, and the cast across these two deep benches of legal eagles is packed with familiar faces: Nick Mohammed, Celia Imrie, Pip Torrens, Phoebe Fox, Miles Jupp and Nina Sosanya to mention but six. It’s a hugely enjoyable series partly because it revels in the drama of the situation so much, and the stars at the centre are very watchable, too. West’s performance is a reminder of just how good he is at playing odious characters with a sad smile while, when it comes to Miller, she conveys her character’s layers with just a glance. As such, she’s always the one you’re really watching in a scene.
George Kay (Lupin, The Long Shadow, Hijack) is the mind behind War, series two of which has already started production. Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, David Harewood and Richard Schiff are among the stars fighting it out in that one. (Eight episodes)
