Tom Ford’s Runway Models Shaved Half Their Heads

Haider Ackermann’s latest show took place in Paris, with models moving between mirrored panels in various states of undress. There were unbuttoned shirts and sharp suits and distressed jeans and some really short shorts. So, yes, plenty going on below the neck, too. But you can take those shorts off when you get home. The haircut will still be there when you pop out for milk.

Which raises a fairly reasonable question: How hard is it to actually line up half your skull? According to Maxwell Oakley, co-founder of Supply 91, harder than the apparently unfinished result might suggest. “Technically it’s a difficult haircut to get perfect,” he tells GQ. “But if you’re actually going to wear this in real life, I think it’s more about the attitude and that punk feel. Is perfection really what you’re after?”

If it is, the important bit happens before the clippers even come out. Oakley would start with longer, slightly damp hair and use a comb to find the central parting. “The key is getting that line perfectly straight down the middle of the head with the comb first so you can keep going back and tweaking it until you’re happy.” Basically, check where the halfway point is before committing to it.
