Bradley Cooper to lead Danny McBride’s G.I. Joe movie as Duke

Danny McBride’s upcoming G.I. Joe film has received quite a big update as Deadline reports A Star Is Born and Is This Thing On? actor/director Bradley Cooper has been cast as the Joe’s heroic leader Duke.

McBride is directing the film from a script he is co-writing with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Paramount took in a number of pitches for a G.I. Joe earlier this year with McBride’s take (centred around the Cobra-run town of Springfield) ultimately being chosen to reboot the franchise. McBride has been in contact with Cooper, who guest starred in McBride’s dramedy The Righteous Gemstones, over the past few weeks after Cooper read the script, and negotiations have now closed.

As the field leader of the G.I. Joes, Duke is smart, loyal and a brilliant fighter and tactician. The Joes’ main enemy is the terrorist organization known as Cobra, who constantly try to take over the world through various schemes. Duke was previously played in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra by Channing Tatum, but was killed off early on in the sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

As for Cooper, he is currently directing and starring in the Ocean’s 11 prequel with Margot Robbie in Europe for a June 2027 release.
