Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly feeling more “isolated” as they are becoming increasingly distant from their once-close royal ally, Princess Eugenie.
The reported rift forming between Eugenie and the Sussexes comes amid the couple’s return to the UK with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
An insider claims that there has been an apparent lack of contact from Eugenie’s side, as she reportedly doesn’t want association with Prince Harry and Meghan to be seen as supporting them amid royal family tensions.

Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank’s long-held relationship with Harry and Meghan was a bond the Sussexes could count on as the couple maintained some level of closeness even after Megxit.
However, a source has said that the long-held connection is being severed as tensions within the royal family continue to strain, with reconciliation being far from likely.
According to Closer Magazine, despite their much closer proximity to the Sussexes, Eugenie and Jack have reportedly avoided meeting with Harry and Meghan, which a source said is a “huge disappointment” for the couple.
Meghan in particular is especially disappointed because as they both own properties on the same resort in Portugal, she reportedly hoped their shared connection to the country would be a chance to connect after spending so much time apart.
The insider revealed that the duchess wanted them to “take weekend trips to Portugal” and expected the princess to be excited about the prospect; however, “she didn’t get much reaction at all.”
“They’re in disbelief right now because Eugenie is suddenly pulling away,” says the source, adding that, “it’s a huge disappointment because Meghan expected them to spend loads of time together.”
Meghan Markle And Princess Eugenie’s Long-Standing Bond

The connection between the Sussexes and the Brooksbanks dates back well before Harry and Meghan decided to step away from being working members of the royal family.
Eugenie and her husband were reportedly among the few trusted individuals privy to Harry and Meghan’s early romance in 2016.
Closer reported that the quartet famously stepped out together for Halloween in Canada before the Sussexes’ relationship became public, showing the close bond they shared before royal tensions.
The Duchess of Sussex recalled that time in her life, saying, “The four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple.”
Their cordial relationship had survived major royal shifts, with Eugenie and Jack reportedly visiting Harry and Meghan in the US in February 2022 even after their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

While ties with other royal family members continued to wither amid their stay in the US, Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Eugenie endured.
After they purchased their Portuguese property in the same resort as the Brookbanks in 2024, the connection appeared to have solidified even further.
However, sources emphasize that their connection is waning now that the Sussexes are spending more time in the UK and there’s far more scrutiny on the Sussexes and their association with the royal family.
One source observed that, “When Harry and Meghan were all the way over in America, and their friendship was mostly over the phone, it was very easy to navigate, but things have gotten much more complicated now that they’re [in the] U.K.”
Princess Eugenie’s Dilemma Linked To Her Father Ex-Prince Andrew’s Scandals

Eugenie distancing herself from the Sussexes appears to be driven less by personal fallout and more because she is worried about her own precarious position within the royal family.
A source previously told the National Examiner that Eugenie and her older sister Princess Beatrice want to avoid getting in “more hot water by coming out swinging for the Sussexes when everyone knows how touchy William is about the situation.”
The York sisters are reportedly avoiding getting on Prince William’s bad side, especially after the scandal surrounding their parents Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, who had close ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
According to the Closer insider, “Eugenie is pretty anxious about upsetting William and the King,” especially the former, who was said to be “watching very closely to see who is with him and who is against him.”
While Eugenie reportedly really cares about Meghan and wants to support her, she appears to be caught between a rock and a hard place as she allegedly has to choose between her longtime friendship and her own royal standing.
Meghan Markle Is Feeling Isolated As Eugenie Distances Herself

The insider described the Duchess of Sussex as feeling “pretty lonely and isolated” and noted that, “not having Eugenie there to guide her through this is hitting her hard. She’s very disappointed right now and fearing the worst.”
The Express reported in September, following their sudden UK return, that the duchess was missing her life back in her Montecito home.
“She is very homesick,” a source revealed, adding that the duchess “misses her mom, her friends, the beach, even her chickens.”
Losing touch with Eugenie, whom she reportedly believed to be the one person in the family she could still count on being there for her, appears to be a big blow to the duchess, who is allegedly already dealing with a chilly reception from the rest of the royal household.
