Sony Pictures are currently in talks to secure the rights for an adaptation of Electronic Arts video game Battlefield, which has Christopher McQuarrie attached to direct and Michael B. Jordan onboard as a producer and potential lead.

Per The Hollywood Reporter McQuarrie, who steered the last four Mission: Impossible movies to over $2.5 billion at the worldwide box-office, is also set to write and produce Battlefield.
While plot details are unavailable, the Electronic Arts game from which it will be adapted is a first-person shooter that focuses on large-scale battles between two military forces, and takes place in a range of settings including both World Wars, Vietnam, and the near future. Since Battlefield 1942’s PC release in 2002 the series has gone on to sell roughly 110 million copies worldwide.
With Resident Evil sitting at $205 million-and-counting at the global box-office, Backrooms having banked $400 million, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie collected over a billion dollars in coins earlier this year, Sony’s pursuit of the Battlefield IP is hardly surprising considering the current trend of successful video game adaptations.
Next up for Academy Award winner Jordan is his sophomore directorial effort The Thomas Crown Affair, in which he stars alongside Adria Arjona, before heading to the Florida beaches to play detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ’85.
