Apple TV has renewed the mystery drama Imperfect Women for a second season with the story to focus on Kerry Washington’s character this time around.
Based on the novel by Araminta Hall, the series followed the friendship between Washington’s Eleanor, Elisabeth Moss’ Mary and Kate Mara’s Nancy. When Nancy is found murdered, Eleanor and Mary not only discover just how much Nancy was keeping from them, but the secrets they and their families kept from each other.
Season two will see Eleanor return to her hometown roots in the affluent black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, only to find that beneath its idyllic surface lie secrets and scandals that threaten to upend everything she thought she knew about her past. As there is no sequel to Hall’s novel, the story is an original idea from series creator and showrunner Annie Weisman and Justin Hillian with the pair serving as co-showrunners for the new season.
As of now, Moss and Joel Kinnaman are not set to return to the series since it will be following Eleanor in a new location with her own story. Two actors who will return will be Leslie Odom Jr. as Eleanor’s brother Donovan and Sheryl Lee Ralph as their mother Constance.
“We were thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonated with audiences around the world, and I’m so excited to step back into Eleanor’s shoes,” Washington said. “She’s intelligent and strong, but she also finds herself navigating complicated and sometimes messy situations. We at Simpson Street along with our incredible partners at Apple and Love & Squalor Pictures can’t wait to explore a fresh chapter for her and share where this story takes us next.”
