Richard Osman has revealed one upside of leaving House of Games: he’s now able to watch it from home.
Osman, 55, finished his final week hosting the quiz show on Friday (2 October) after nine years and over 800 episodes.
In an emotional farewell message, Osman handed hosting duties over to Welsh actor Michael Sheen and thanked viewers for watching the programme.
“This show is House of Games not because of me, because of these incredible people and the question minders and all that, so you are in very, very safe hands with this new host as well,” he said in his sign-off.
“From me to you, thank you. Thank you for watching. That’s the real pleasure of this show is you, is viewers, and people watching with their family and all sorts of things.”
The following day, Osman continued his goodbyes with a post on Instagram in which he suggested that one positive of leaving the programme is that he can now watch it from home.
“The very fondest of farewells to #HouseOfGames, it really has been a treat from start to finish,” he said, adding: “I can’t wait to watch [Michael Sheen] taking the hot seat from Monday.”
Osman also hinted at a possible return in the future, writing: “And who knows, maybe I’ll even turn up as a contestant one day? Thank you for all the love yesterday, and over the years.”

Sheen, 57, made his debut on House of Games on Monday (5 October), during which he seemed to win over fans who praised his performance on X.
“Very much enjoyed the first ep with Michael Sheen. He is great,” wrote one person. Another added: “He has been great so far […] I’m sure he’ll only grow into it too.”
“Michael Sheen for House of Games is class,” said a third person, with someone else note: “That was a brilliant first episode.”
Elsewhere on television, the Good Omens star is one of 20 contestants still left competing in Celebrity Traitors after journalist Amol Rajan became the first to be “murdered” last week.
Alongside Bella Ramsey, Jerry Hall, Romesh Ranganathan, Rob Beckett and more, Sheen is one of the Faithfuls tasked with unmasking the Traitors in their midst. You can find the full list of contestants here.
The series continues at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Thursday 8 October.
