A.R. Rahman Announces Upcoming Memoir

A.R. Rahman took to social media to announce that he is working on his autobiography. Titled Rahman: A Renaissance, the book will be co-authored by Rupa Chakravarty, a global writer and multifaceted personality.

“A new chapter begins. Rupa Chakravarty and I come together as co-authors for Rahman: A Renaissance. The book offers a closer look at the music, ideas, challenges, influences and creative journey that have shaped my world. More details will follow soon,” posted the Academy Award winner.

When contacted by this newspaper, Rahman shared that, while the title of the book has been finalised, the project is in progress and updates would be shared in a couple of months.

Rahman’s musical journey began early. At age 11, he started formal training under Master Dhanraj. During his school years, he played the keyboard and arranged music for bands such as Roots.

He soon began collaborating with veteran composers and even accompanied legends like Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and Zakir Hussain on world tours. Later, he began composing independently for documentaries, commercial jingles and Indian television channels.

His famous breakthrough came in 1992 with Roja. The rest is history. Beyond his multiple National Film Awards, Rahman has earned international acclaim too!
