Chip and Joanna Gaines’ third child, Duke Gaines, is growing up fast, and the older he gets, the more he resembles his famous father. In a pic Joanna shared to her Instagram Stories, Duke’s side profile was so much like Chip’s, we actually did a double take. It was Duke’s senior night, and the teenager was clad in his football kit accordingly. While the former HGTV star beamed from ear to ear (we’re guessing there was either a camera or Joanna was smiling at someone out of frame), Duke and Chip seemed to be grimacing into the light, their expressions also remarkably similar. However, even if they weren’t sporting the same look, their features are borderline copy-paste.
Duke and Chip share the same jawline and browbone. While the teenager was pictured from the side and Chip was captured head-on, their noses looked quite similar too. Duke has also inherited Chip’s signature dark blond locks, which is something we’ve noticed about Duke in the past. Of course, it is worth noting that even though he has made the odd appearance on his parents’ social media (and even appeared in some “Fixer Upper” episodes when he was younger too), for the most part, Duke is kept firmly out of the limelight. With all of that in mind, there’s a chance he looks a lot like Joanna from certain angles as well. Given how young he still is, it’s pretty likely Chip and Joanna’s second-born son will continue to transform. Joanna, there’s still hope yet!
Duke Gaines has other things in common with his famous father
Outside of looking a lot like his dad, Duke Gaines also shares some of the Magnolia co-founder’s hobbies. As Chip Gaines has previously gushed, his sons are passionate about baseball in the same way he’s always been. “Baseball has been a constant in my life since I can remember — first with my dad, learning the game and the lessons that came with it, and now getting to pass that same love on to my own boys,” the former HGTV star shared in a 2026 Instagram carousel. It included a head-on snap of Duke mid-pitch (above) — though, as an aside, because the pic was taken from this angle and Duke’s eyes are more visible, we immediately noticed a resemblance to his mom. The sporty teenager doesn’t just have Joanna Gaines’ gorgeous brown peepers, and it also bears mentioning that he isn’t only participating in the sports and hobbies his dad loves either.
Duke is also partial to some of Joanna’s favorite pastimes. And, in June 2025, the beloved reality star shared a video on Instagram to prove it. In the sweet post, the mother and son duo made jam together, prompting a ton of commenters to enthuse over how sweet it was to witness. “So heart-warming to spend time with your son!” one wrote. “Praying my boys and I have this relationship!” admitted another. Still, even with their shared hobby, Chip’s distinctive features were hard to miss, and many fans also pointed out the strong resemblance in the comments section. One even went as far as calling Duke “Mini Chip,” while another dubbed him “Chip Jr.” We guess the verdict is in, then: Even with his mom’s eyes, Duke is still Chip’s mini-me in the looks department.
