Kim Kardashian’s kiss with Pete Davidson set the feud in motion
West’s hatred for Davidson kicked off in October 2021, about eight months after Kim Kardashian filed for divorce. While hosting Saturday Night Live, Kardashian shared an on-screen kiss with Davidson during an Aladdin-themed sketch. That kiss reportedly sent West into a spiral.
That spiral only got worse as Kardashian and Davidson began dating and made their relationship more and more public. As the relationship became more visible, West made his feelings known. In an interview on the Drink Champs podcast, he insisted he and Kardashian were not yet divorced. Around the same time, during a benefit concert in Los Angeles, he altered the lyrics of his song “Runaway” to directly ask Kardashian to come back to him. Kardashian, meanwhile, asked the court to declare her legally single.
Kanye West released music targeting Pete Davidson
The feud moved into music in mid-January 2022 with “Eazy,” a collaboration with The Game. The track featured a line in which West rapped about wanting to physically attack Davidson, naming him outright. It was the first time West had targeted him so explicitly, and it set the tone for what followed, as his behavior toward Davidson escalated from there.
The following month, West took to social media to continue his harassment. He began referring to Davidson as “Skete” in a string of Instagram posts, shared screenshots of private messages, and mocked the comedian. He briefly apologized for the posts, but the harassment didn’t stop.
A music video made the situation more serious
On March 2, West released the “Eazy” music video, a claymation piece depicting him kidnapping and burying a figure resembling Davidson. The video drew widespread criticism for depicting violence against a real person. That same day, a judge declared Kardashian legally single.
Shortly after the music video’s release, Instagram took action. West was suspended for 24 hours in mid-March after a series of posts that included a racial slur aimed at Trevor Noah, who had commented on the one-sided feud.
The breakup didn’t end the feud
While Kardashian and Davidson stuck together through most of West’s attacks, the relationship was not meant to be. In August 2022, reports surfaced that the pair had split, citing their busy schedules. West made sure to weigh in, too.
The controversial rapper used social media to post a mocked-up newspaper front page announcing that “Skete Davidson” was dead at age 28. West eventually deleted the post after mass criticism rolled in.
The aftermath
While Davidson played it mostly cool during his romance with Kardashian, he later admitted how much West’s attacks had affected him. He has said the period was so stressful that he sought trauma therapy to work through it.
Despite the traumatic experience, Davidson has remained complimentary toward Kardashian and the time they spent together. He has also been careful not to speak negatively about West, choosing to focus on how West’s actions affected him rather than on the man himself.
