The month of October 2026 has begun with multiple small-budget films. Today, a film titled “Sanchari” hit the screens, while several films, including “Don’t Trouble The Trouble”, “Thella Kagitham”, “Anakapalli”, “Sigma”, and “Dorothy”, are arriving in theaters tomorrow (October 2).
The first weekend of October will see around eight films competing at the box office. However, most of these films lack significant hype. If any of them turns out to be a hit, it would be a pleasant surprise for the trade.
The trade is instead pinning its hopes on three big-ticket releases this month: “Aadarsha Kutumbam”, “Jailer 2”, and “Ranabaali”.
Aadarsha Kutumbam
After the massive success of “Sankranthiki Vasthunnam”, Venkatesh’s market has suddenly become red hot. Earlier, a Venkatesh film touching Rs 80 crore was considered a major success, but the Anil Ravipudi-directed entertainer went on to gross more than Rs 250 crore. He later appeared in a guest role in Chiranjeevi’s “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu”, which also became a huge blockbuster.
Against this backdrop, the Venkatesh-Trivikram combination generated considerable interest. However, delays in production and a teaser that failed to create much excitement have kept the film from generating the expected buzz.
Still, Trivikram remains one of the top directors in Telugu cinema and has delivered several blockbusters in the family-entertainer space. “Aadarsha Kutumbam”, which is scheduled for release on October 9, is expected to get strong openings, particularly in urban centres and overseas. It will be the first big-ticket release of the month.
Jailer 2
“Jailer 2″ created huge anticipation when it was announced, primarily because the first part, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, resurrected Rajinikanth’s market and became a record-breaking blockbuster.
However, the sequel got delayed multiple times during production, and the prolonged wait has affected its buzz. None of the songs released so far have become major chartbusters either. As a result, the film does not currently have the kind of hype that surrounded the first part.
That said, Nelson is known for his dark comedy and for presenting mass heroes in a distinctive manner. If “Jailer 2” connects with audiences from the first day, it could trigger a strong box-office run. The film is targeting the Dasara festive period and is scheduled to release on October 15.
Ranabaali
“Ranabaali” is a crucial film for Vijay Deverakonda. It marks his first film set against a Rayalaseema backdrop and also features him in a period setting. Speaking in the Rayalaseema dialect itself is a challenge, while playing a king adds another layer to the role.
The first look and teasers have generated positive responses, with Vijay’s dialogue delivery in the teaser receiving particular appreciation.
Despite his strong following among the youth, Vijay Deverakonda has not delivered a major blockbuster in recent years. His recent film choices have not worked consistently at the box office, and his promotional strategy has also attracted criticism.
“Ranabaali” has an additional point of interest as it marks Vijay Deverakonda’s first film with Rashmika Mandanna after their marriage. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film is scheduled to arrive on October 16.
With the period setting, Rayalaseema backdrop and Vijay in a completely different role, the film has several elements working in its favour. It now needs to translate the positive pre-release response into strong theatrical results.
