Amanda Holden admits ‘it’s a bit odd’ as she opens up on major family change

Britain’s Got Talent judge and Heart Radio presenter Amanda Holden has shared the emotional reason behind her increasingly busy household – much to the dismay of her husband, Chris Hughes

Amanda Holden has opened up about an “odd” change to her family life, which has sparked her decision to rescue more animals. The 55-year-old jokingly revealed this week that her husband, Chris Hughes, had threatened to divorce her if she brought home any more rescue pets.

However, this hasn’t stopped her from bringing home her latest furry friend – a rescue Tibetan terrier called Dolly.

Amanda says one of the reasons behind her decision to have more pets is due to her daughter Lexi moving away for university.

She told the Sunday Mail: “We’re three of us now Lexi is at university, so that’s a bit odd. “But I’ve rescued loads more animals, so they’re all at the table. It feels like they’ve filled a hole.”

Giving more insight into her family life away from the cameras, she added to the publication: “I’m quite traditional in the way I like to have a family meal on the table most evenings. My mum and nan were both working mums, but they would still come home and do the dinner. I do the same.

“It’s really important to me. That’s my language of love,” she added. At her Surrey home she has four cats and three dogs in total, and recently joked that there won’t be any more rescues if she wants to stay married.

She shared on Heart Radio: “I would happily adopt more cats, but I’d lose my husband over it and I still love him quite a lot, so I don’t want to lose him.”

Giving an update on their new dog, Amanda described her as “very special” and “the sweetest”, but admitted she’s still getting used to the basics.

One trait she has discovered about her pet pooch a little too late is her tendency to steal things around the home.

She claims Dolly has particularly taken a liking to her keys and often finds them at the end of her garden.

Most recently, she said the dog also stole Chris’ Invisalign trays, which has put him behind on his treatment. “I can’t believe the stuff that she nicks,” she laughed.

She went on to say her husband is “overwhelmed” by the animals in their home and joked: “He has threatened a divorce in the past if I rescue anymore creatures.”

Amanda has also previously opened up about how she wished to have more children when she was younger.

“Oh, I would’ve had loads if I had met Chris earlier, I would’ve had loads,” she shared with listeners. “I would’ve gone for four, I think, but yeah, I’m going to say we had three, we ended up with two if you know what I mean.”

The presenter was referring to the sad loss of her second child, Theo, who was stillborn just a year before their second daughter, Hollie came into the world.
