Ant and Dec have issued a plea for two huge comedy stars to join I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
The Geordie duo have fronted the hit ITV1 reality show since 2002 and have seen stars like Kerry Katona and Katie Price as well as, in more recent years, Coleen Rooney and Kelly Brook live in less-than-luxurious conditions in the Australian jungle over the course of three weeks.
The pair will be back in November for the latest series of the programme but they have now addressed two celebrities they would personally love to sign up for the show. In what would be a “full circle moment,” the pair have asked Two Pints of Lager star Will Mellor to join after he starred as a contestant parodying the series for a crude sketch on The Keith Lemon Show a decade ago.
Speaking on their Hanging Out With Ant & Dec podcast, Dec said: “Can you imagine if we ever got Will Mellor on I’m a Celebrity? Like, how full circle that would go?! But imagine if we got Will on it, and you had to sit there and go, ‘You’re doing great, mate. You’re doing great!’
Ant replied: “I thought you were going to say that I had to put my you-know-what in his mouth. Okay, right. Good. Phew, phew, phew. Where’s he going with this?”
It was then that Dec suggested that Leigh Francis, the alter-ego of Keith Lemon, should also brave some of the Bustucker Trials as well.
Dec said: “Or if we got Leigh Francis in the jungle? And we had to stand by and watch him do a trial. Let’s try and make that happen,” as Ant replied: “Leigh, come on! This is our plea to you. Get in the jungle. You know you want to. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll be there. You’re doing great. You’re doing great!”
Towards the end of last year, Leigh spoke to followers during an Instagram Live where he revealed he had actually been approached by I’m A Celeb bosses but turned the opportunity down.
When asked a question by one of his followers about joining the show, he said: “No way. They did ask me, though. I took the meeting and they were nice people but I just don’t want to do it.”
But that wasn’t the only reality TV show he has been asked to join. Back in 2006, he was also asked to join Big Brother. At the time, he told his agent: “No chance! I’d rather rip me eyes out.”
Leigh was first spotted by TV star Davina McCall, who served as the original host of Big Brother. She spotted him during one of his stand-up comedy shows.
