Apple fans snap up £600 iPhone for £240 as iPhone 18 pre-orders go live

Apple fans can pre-order the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max from September 12 but shoppers opting for an older model could save hundreds of pounds.

Apple has unveiled its iPhone 18 line-up, including its most powerful models ever. On Saturday (September 12), pre-orders will open for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but they’ll come at a cost, with the base models now starting at £1,199 and £1,299 respectively.

With the new models set to land on shelves on September 16, some older models have been quietly falling in price. Shoppers looking to upgrade to a far more affordable model can now pick up the iPhone 13 128GB for £239.99 at musicMagpie.

This is £319.01 cheaper compared to the price of buying new at £599. The main caveat is that this is a refurbished device, but it’s said to be in ‘pristine’ condition. This means it has been ‘fully tested’ and is in ‘excellent working order’.

Shoppers happy to pay slightly more could opt for the iPhone 14 for £279.99, but this model is in ‘good’ condition, so it will show ‘signs of wear and tear’. Despite being older models, musicMagpie says all its phones will be delivered with a minimum of 80% battery health, as well as a 12-month warranty covering technical defects.

Elsewhere, Amazon has reduced several unused older models, with the iPhone 15 now at £549 (was £599). For those preferring to upgrade to the latest and greatest model, retailers including Sky Mobile, EE and Mobiles.co.uk begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at 1pm on Saturday.

Apple launched the iPhone 13 in 2021, designed with a 6.1” Super Retina XDR display with tough Ceramic Shield and IP68 water resistance. It boasts a dual 12MP camera system formed of a main and ultra-wide camera lenses that can capture video with Dolby Vision up to 4K.

MusicMagpie customers can pick up a refurbished iPhone 13 in ‘pristine’ condition for £239.99.

Inside, there’s a speedy A15 Bionic chip, a battery offering up to 19 hours of video playback, plus fast-charge support for up to 50% power in around 30 minutes. Just bear in mind this could be slightly lower with a refurbished phone.

What’s more, Apple rolls out software and security upgrades to its older handsets for five to seven years, meaning the iPhone 13 will support updates until at least 2029. While musicMagpie doesn’t display views for its individual products, the retailer has achieved a 4.5-star Trustpilot rating from more than 360,000 customers.

“Delivery and quality were really good,” one said. “The iPhone I bought is in really good condition, and I was very happy. In addition, delivery was faster than I expected.”

Another said: “I’ve bought a number of phones from musicMagpie and always had very good refurbished iPhones. This iPhone 14 came in the expected condition and works great. I will be back when we need another.”

This shopper deducted a star from their review as the phone arrived in ‘grubby’ condition, saying: “Used iPhone arrived in grubby condition. Had to clean all buttons, ports, mics and speakers. Otherwise, in very good condition as described.”

While this five-star review says: “From the online information about phone options to the safe delivery of the chosen iPhone, I was really pleased with the experience of buying a refurbished phone. The price was competitive, and the quality of the handset was superb.”
