While Metroid Ravenous was one of the industry’s worst kept secrets, few expected it to be featured as part of the epic Nintendo Direct showcase earlier this month. But Nintendo elected to reveal Samus Aran’s latest adventure during the broadcast, detailing release date plans and unveiling a special edition.
Metroid Ravenous is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. A direct sequel to Metroid Dread, it’s the latest 2.5D action adventure in the long-running franchise. However, dedicated fans have found it hard to get hold of a copy of the game’s special edition.
Nintendo’s official website has been stocking the special edition, which includes the base game as well as a couple of collector’s items. It’s being sold for £99.99 via the gaming giant’s site, but fans have been met with a stock warning in recent days.
The special edition of Metroid Ravenous includes a special steelbook and the Samus (Metriod Suit) Amiibo figure. But it appears to be extremely hard to get hold of.
Since going live on the Nintendo store, it’s started to be stocked elswhere. The latest retailer offering the special edition in the UK is Argos.
The High Street store is also offering it for £99.99, but at the time of writing was also out of stock. Fans are advised to sign up for email alerts if they want to get hold of a copy before Metroid Ravenous launches in January 2027.
Some fans on Reddit reported being able to get hold of a copy before stock disappeared again. It follows a frustrated U-turn from Very, who have had to cancel some gamers’ pre-orders.
However, some are unhappy that the Amiibo figure is locked behind the £100 special edition. One fan wrote: “This is ridiculous of Nintendo to lock the amiibo behind it.
“Super bad form. And this is from a guy who managed to get a pre order.”
Fans also report that the Special Edition is also being sold on Amazon, although at the time of writing no listing could be found on the website. Customers reportedly face an inflated £120 price point for pre-ordering from the e-commerce giant.
