A stunning woodland walk just 50 minutes from Nottingham is getting rave reviews online. If you’re looking for a fun family activity this weekend, you could take on this trail which boasts gorgeous views.
The location offers woodland boardwalks, crossover dams and there’s plenty of benches along the way for a picnic in the woods. On top of the breathtaking scenery, there’s also a surprise at the end – one the kids will certainly appreciate. So where is the place? According to hiker Sam Culley, you’ll need to visit Linacre Reservoirs.
Located just outside of the Peak District and close to Chesterfield, a car journey from Nottingham should take you about 50 minutes. There is parking available on site – but just note it might be a little bit more busy on the weekends.
Speaking about the spot, Sam told his 372,000 followers on TikTok: “If you’re looking for a scenic family-friendly walk this summer, this might just be the place for you.
“You can enjoy woodland boardwalks, crossover dams, follow a nice well-looked after gentle trial, enjoy a picnic in the woods and if you’re really lucky, you’ll get an ice cream at the end.”
Exploring Linacre Reservoirs Trails and Wildlife
Linacre Reservoirs has a series of three beautiful reservoirs surrounded by woodlands. According to Sam, there are loads of different trails so you can just walk a few hundred metres or miles.
He continued: “I decided to follow the trails around the edges of the water which were very peaceful and [with] great views, and there were little signs with history on them on the way round.
“You cross some bridges and boardwalks and there’s a really lovely gentle trail around the edge. You’ll find some nice little picnic benches strategically placed to stop for a lunch.”
There’s also beautiful woodlands which offer great shelter – which is perfect for any rain or the next heatwave. And Sam concluded the post telling fans that if you’re lucky, there’s an ice cream fan waiting for you at the end.
Since he shared the post on TikTok, many flooded the comments section. One said: “One of our faves,” while another added: “Love that walk early on a Sunday morning.”
You can also do a spot of birdwatching there where you could look out for nuthatches, woodpeckers, flycatchers and even mandarin ducks. If you’re visiting in spring time, you can see the surrounding forest floor carpeted with bluebells.
Travelling from Nottingham to the Linacre Reservoirs should take about 50-60 minutes by car, covering around 30 miles northwest via the A610 or A38 towards Chesterfield.
