South London producer Ben Hauke has shared plans for new album ‘Future Bruk’.
The producer recently celebrated 10 years in the game, a journey that has taken him from jazz-adjacent elasticity through to harder, and more eclectic club-rooted sounds.
New album ‘Future Bruk’ points him in a forward direction – out on October 16th via Woop Records, it recalibrates the DNA of seminal London sound broken beat into something more concrete, Brutalist, yet still system-oriented.
Pulling everywhere from electro and 2-step through to experimental electronics, broken beat remains – in essence – at the album’s core.
Citing Mark Mac’s Contemporary Bruk as a fellow sonic traveller, Ben pulls away from the genres, softer, jazz-tinged tendencies to go somewhere distinct. He comments: “I knew there was something I rejected in Broken Beat. I didn’t like how soft and jazzy it was, so I thought, why not make what I wanted to hear?”
The producer adds: “I feel the style has more room to evolve. I wanted to explore that and think about what the future of electronic music looks like to me.”
