“I have been using this spot cream for about two and a half years now and it’s my go-to. It lasts so long and I find it really calms the redness of spots and flattens them.”
While summer is often associated with radiant skin, the warmer months can unfortunately bring an uptick in spots, congestion and breakouts for many people. Yet skincare fans have been singing the praises of a dermatologist-developed treatment boasting over 1,000 five-star reviews, with customers hailing it as a ‘miracle product’ for addressing blemishes.
Breakouts can stem from various causes, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, dietary factors, acne and other triggers. Summer spots are primarily triggered by hot conditions that lead to perspiration and excessive sebum production.
Discovering a treatment that delivers results without causing dryness and irritation can prove difficult, but Dr Sam’s Flawless Neutralising Gel appears to achieve the ideal equilibrium. Created by Harley Street cosmetic dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting, the 30ml bottle retails at £30 and functions as a targeted solution for blemishes, blackheads and dark marks.
The formulation harnesses 5% azelaic acid to address the visibility of pigmentation and redness while clearing pores and blemishes, complemented by 2% salicylic acid which helps slough away dead skin cells and diminish congestion. It also features 0.5% bakuchiol – frequently touted as a milder substitute for retinol – combined with 5% squalane, to combat blemishes while helping maintain the skin barrier’s comfort.
It can be dabbed directly onto individual blemishes, applied across breakout-prone zones or even worked into your skincare regime as an all-over serum. The formula is also fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, with the brand claiming it sits comfortably beneath makeup, making it a practical choice for those wanting to tackle spots throughout the day without resorting to visible treatments such as pimple patches, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Formulated with Azelaic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Bakuchiol. It helps reduce redness, spot size and minimises future breakouts.
Meanwhile, PerriconeMD offers this Blemish Relief Targeted Spot Treatment, priced at £22. The maximum-strength invisible gel works to minimise blemishes and help prevent future outbreaks through ingredients including salicylic acid and witch hazel.
However, salicylic acid-based products aren’t suitable for everyone, especially those with an aspirin allergy. Therefore, it’s advisable to explore alternative active ingredients.
The 47 Skin Serum 30ml, available for £29 at Boots, harnesses the patented ingredient Silver Chitoderm, which reportedly eliminates 99.9% of spot-causing bacteria. According to 47 Skin, it naturally calms and shields skin from blemishes, diminishes the appearance of marks and leaves the complexion soft and moisturised.
However, according to Dr Sam Bunting, her formula delivered results whereby 83% of customers experienced an overnight reduction in blemishes. The gel has garnered over 1,000 five-star reviews, with customers declaring they ‘can’t live without’ it.
One reviewer stated: “I can’t live without this – it reduces redness, texture and generally makes my very sensitive skin smoother and more comfortable. I cannot recommend it more.”
Another reviewer wrote: “This is a game changer. I’ve struggled with my skin for years and have a bad habit of picking my spots and have some scarring. This reduces blemishes and scarring really quickly and has genuinely transformed my skin. I couldn’t go without it now.
“Easily the best and most re-purchased skincare product that I have ever owned,” a further customer commented. “Suffering from hormonal breakouts around my chin/lower cheeks area and the flawless neutralising gel has been the best product to calm down sore and red active blemishes – I can’t go a day without it.”
The product has also won over older customers. One 62-year-old reviewer shared: “I have been using the flawless neutralising gel as part of a full routine of Dr Sam’s products since Sept 2025. I am 62 years old and have struggled with my skin since my teens, experiencing varying degrees of acne that I have never been able to get under control.
“I have been consistent and patient and after nine months of continued daily improvement my skin now has a ‘glass like’ glow and I am receiving compliments about how lovely my complexion is. The neutralising gel has been a key part of my routine and I have recommended it to so many people. It has unblocked congested pores and cleared spots all while soothing my sensitive skin and I am genuinely thrilled at the results.”
However, not all customers were persuaded, with some expressing reservations about the fragrance, while others felt disappointed by the lack of visible improvements. One reviewer remarked: “I’ve used this just a couple of times and I’ve started seeing some different, although the only think I would I say don’t like is it has a strong scent.”
Another commented: “I haven’t noticed much of a change after hearing it was good for acne and rosacea. I’ll use it until it’s empty, but if no change will not reorder.”
Despite this, numerous customers have praised it as a ‘miracle product’, with one stating: “Literally a miracle product. I’ve been suffering with peri menopausal acne around my chin, and this has cleared it up in 2-3 uses. I now daren’t stop.”
Another customer shared: “At 35 I struggle with hormonal acne and have had spots since I was 17. My skin really gets me down. I’ve tried all the expensive skincare you can imagine and was very close to taking roaccutane (didn’t want to but doctors offered it) this gel cream is the only thing that has stopped spots from coming.
“There’s plenty of creams that dry spots up, but I don’t think there are many that stop them coming back and this one does. I put it on my jawline and cheeks when I don’t even have spore and it really does stop them coming. When I put them on spots I have, it dries them up and helps with the healing process overnight. A miracle product.”
While ideal for addressing spots as they appear, Dr Sam Bunting explains the gel needn’t be saved solely for sporadic breakouts, and can be incorporated into daily routines as a preventative measure. She explained: “Dr Sam’s Flawless Neutralising Gel is a versatile treatment/ While it’s commonly applied directly to blemishes to target breakouts, it can also be used as an all-over serum to help prevent them.”
She further suggests applying it to zones that are especially susceptible to breakouts, including the chin or cheeks. For hormonal acne, Dr Sam maintains it works most effectively when used regularly on troublesome areas such as the chin or jawline, assisting in reducing inflammation and preventing subsequent flare-ups.
While the 30ml applicator works well for occasional treatment, there’s also a 50ml roller variant available for £42. The roller applicator was introduced earlier this year and is intended for broader application across areas including the cheeks and forehead.
