Birmingham has one of the UK’s highest-rated universities on Google, it also has one off its 20 lowest.

University of Birmingham is 18th of 138 UK universities on its Google rating at 4.55, while University College Birmingham is 123rd at 3.95, and three more Birmingham universities sit between them.

College scholarship experts at Parents resource ranked 138 UK universities by the exact average rating on their main Google listing, counting every institution with at least 100 reviews. The typical university sits at 4.31.

At older campuses many reviewers are visitors rather than students, so these are public ratings of each university’s main Google listing rather than a measure of teaching.

How they rank

1. University of Birmingham: 4.55 from 1,612 reviews. 18th of 138 in the UK. The Edgbaston listing has the largest review count of any university in the Midlands.
2. Birmingham Newman University: 4.35 from 167 reviews. 61st of 138 in the UK. The Bartley Green campus holds a small listing and the city’s second highest average.
3. Aston University: 4.29 from 655 reviews. 73rd of 138 in the UK. The Aston Triangle campus sits just inside the top half of the table.
4. Birmingham City University: 4.19 from 537 reviews. 93rd of 138 in the UK. The City Centre campus listing covers the university as a whole.
5. University College Birmingham: 3.95 from 253 reviews. 123rd of 138 in the UK. The Summer Row listing is the lowest rated of the five.
