Blue Lights series four ‘chaos’ confirmed as police drama returns sooner than you think

For those wanting to more police action on their screens, the BBC has confirmed that hit Northern Ireland police drama Blue Lights will return

Fans of Blue Lights won’t have much longer to wait, with the acclaimed BBC drama officially set to return to screens later this month.

Series four of the Northern Ireland-set police drama will premiere on September 29, bringing viewers back to the lives of response officers Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster and Annie Conlon as they find themselves facing another dangerous chapter.

The new series picks up three years into the officers’ careers, with the trio pushed to their limits as they confront what is described as “the greatest threat they have ever encountered”.

The BBC’s synopsis for the upcoming episodes teases a storyline that will reach far beyond the streets of Belfast, with a murder trial threatening to expose secrets that have remained hidden for years.

It reads: “Three years into their jobs as response officers, Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster, and Annie Conlon are operating at their limit, facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control.

“Meanwhile, the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous and long-buried secret that leads to chaos both inside the police and across the criminal underworld.

“As they grapple with big decisions about their future, Grace, Tommy, and Annie must find the courage to face the greatest threat they have ever encountered: the truth.”, reports Belfast Live.

Returning for the fourth series is Siân Brooke as Grace Ellis, alongside Martin McCann as Stevie Neil, Katherine Devlin as Annie Conlon and Nathan Braniff as Tommy Foster.

Joanne Crawford will reprise her role as Chief Inspector Helen McNally, with Andi Osho returning as Sandra Cliff, Frank Blake as Shane Bradley.

Abigail McGibbon as Tina McIntyre, Dearbháile McKinney as Aisling Byrne, Neil Keery as Sergeant Lawrence McCloskey and Andrea Irvine as Chief Superintendent Nicola Robinson.

The new series will also see the return of Richard Dormer as Gerry Cliff in a special one-off episode, Cathy Tyson, who plays private members club owner, Dana Morgan, H

Since launching, Blue Lights has built a strong following for its portrayal of police officers working in Belfast, combining high-pressure cases with the personal challenges faced by officers both inside and outside the job. The BBC itself previously described the drama as a “sleeper hit” following its launch.
