A horror-themed escape room has launched a family-friendly experience. Contained, located on Derby Road in Bootle, has left visitors terrified with its horror-themed private escape room experiences, leading to an impressive 4.9 out of five star rating on Google. The ECHO previously reported in 2023 how concerned commuters were getting out of their cars after hearing screams of terror coming from the building.
The attraction is home to two immersive experiences: The Exorcist, a live escape room experience, and Snatched, featuring a live actor. The two experiences are designed for teenagers and adults, but the attraction has now launched its third, family-friendly experience.
Vampire Hunters, which has a minimum age of 8+, has launched at the attraction. The 60-minute experience takes visitors to an ancient castle to “uncover its secrets” and destroy the vampire living inside. Co-founder Sean Porter said the experience is rated “one out of five for scare levels,” making it a “family-friendly adventure”.
As the journey continues, visitors will learn about five vampire hunters who previously tried to kill the vampire, before the “ultimate finale”.
He told the ECHO: “We find that a lot of people who have sent enquires in the past want to do something in the horror field, but don’t necessarily want to be scared.
“That’s younger families, and even some adults don’t like to be scared, but like the spooky feel. We now have something for everyone.”
The Exorcist experience follows the story of missing Father Daniels, who was last located in the home of a 12-year-old girl believed to be possessed by a demon.
Visitors must search the child’s room to piece together what has happened to the missing priest and discover the truth about the possession.
Snatched, which features a live actor, is rated “five out of five for scare levels” and has left visitors calling it quits within minutes. Sean has analysed the booking data since the experience opened and discovered that 41% of teams have quit, with the average quit time at 24 minutes into the hour-long experience.
The experience comes with a “chilling disclaimer” where participants “acknowledge that this is an immersive experience deliberately designed to provoke fear, discomfort and psychological tension”.
Sean added: “I ran a game last night, they came all the way from Kettering, and they actually pressed the emergency stop through fear. They pressed that 30 minutes and 40 seconds in.
“That kind of thing happens all the time. But that’s what people pay for, they want to be scared.”
