Brooklyn Beckham has spoken of his heartache after learning of the death of friend Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford.
The 27-year-old model died at a rehabilitation facility, his devastated family has confirmed after a long struggle with drugs, panic attacks and his mental health. The cause of death has not yet been released with an autopsy yet to be carried out. Cindy, her husband Rande Gerber, and their daughter Kaia Gerber confirmed the heartbreaking news through a statement overnight.
Brooklyn, also 27, took to Instagram to share an image of himself Presley posing together, alongside the caption: “I am so heartbroken. Presley you were the kindest and we are going to miss you so much x we love you.”
He isn’t the only star to offer a tribute, with Paris Hilton saying she is “completely heartbroken” and “can’t believe this is real”.
She went on: “Presley, you were such a beautiful soul. So sweet, sensitive, kind and genuine. I cared about you so much, and I’m going to miss you more than words can say.
“You had such a gentle heart and there was something so special about you that anyone who was lucky enough to know you could feel…
“I hope you knew how deeply loved you were and how many people cared about you. My heart is with your entire family during this unimaginable time. Rest in peace, my friend. Love you forever. You will be so deeply missed.”
Like his mother and younger sister Kaia, aged 25, Presley had pursued a career in modelling.
Kaia, who recently appeared in FX’s seductive thriller series The Shards, opened up about her brother’s struggles with substance abuse and mental health in a recent interview with Vogue.
The striking image of her mother, Kaia was candid about the profound effect her brother’s difficulties had taken on her. “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she said.
“I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.”
During the same interview, the 25-year-old also opened up about her seemingly uneventful upbringing, having been raised by a supermodel A-lister along the shoreline in the picture-perfect, Barbie-dream enclave of Malibu.
“Unfortunately, all the things that people assume are true. I was in the ocean every day. My brother would go surfing and then walk up to school in his wetsuit with his surfboard, barefoot. You’re with the same kids from preschool to when you graduate,” she told the fashion bible.
“There were no Ubers there, so your parents were driving you to parties and then picking you up. There was only so much trouble you could get into.”
His death was confirmed on Sunday, with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealing the supermodel’s son passed away while checked into a rehab facility.
The singer’s son had posted about undergoing an Ibogaine treatment in Mexico on Instagram in March. Ibogaine is a psychoactive indole alkaloid derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub and is used experimentally for withdrawal symptoms and cravings for substances such as alcohol, opioids and cocaine. Research has also been conducted on it over its potential to help those suffering from PTSD.
