A comedy series that’s ‘based on a true rumour’, Brothers stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as versions of themselves. The two men had a terrific on-screen chemistry in series one of True Detective and are real-life friends, a relationship the eight-parter puts under the microscope when circumstances conspire to push Woody to move in with Matthew after a household crisis.
Matthew is trying to work on a speech about his dead father, so doesn’t immediately relish the interruption but, as the two friends hang out, a startling possibility emerges – could they actually be brothers?
If you like Harrelson and McConaughey, then you’ll find a lot of easygoing charm in this series, sprinkled with the kind of Hollywood charisma that only comes from casting stars. Holland Taylor adds edge to the story as Matthew’s mother, who has a wonderful way with words. (Eight episodes)
