There is widespread fury as tubs of Heroes, Roses AND Celebrations are all slashed in size by up to a quarter despite prices soaring. An investigation found tubs of Cadbury Roses and Heroes weighed 600g in 2021 but have been slashed to just 475g this year.
It is a 21 per cent fall in size, while the price has gone from £4 to £7 at most supermarkets. Celebrations tubs have gone from 650g to 500g.
Consumer expert Martyn James said: “It’s simply greed and consumers are rightly furious.” Birmingham chocolate giant Cadbury owner Mondelez said it faced “significantly higher supply chain input costs”.

Chocolate has been getting more expensive for several years because of poor harvests in west Africa, in particular Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, where more than half of the world’s cocoa beans are harvested.
Earlier this year, it emerged the price of Easter eggs had risen by more than 40% in some cases while some have also shrunk in size, according to research by the consumer champion Which?.
At the time, Reena Sewraz, the senior money and retail editor at Which?, said: “It’s disappointing to see Easter treats aren’t safe from shrinkflation. Manufacturers are quietly giving shoppers less for more, so it’s no wonder people feel cheated.”
She added: “To ensure you’re getting a fair deal, always check the ‘price per 100g’ on the shelf-edge label rather than just the headline price. This is the only way to accurately compare different brands and sizes.”
In a previous statement, a spokesperson for Tesco said: “The prices quoted by Which? do not reflect the prices that the great majority of customers will pay for Easter eggs at Tesco.
“Four of the five products Which? highlighted are currently on Clubcard Price deals, with the Galaxy Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and the Maltesers Milk Chocolate Egg both currently half price at just £3.50.”
