Don’t ever doubt that Catherine Zeta-Jones is a true Swansea girl.
The Hollywood star from the Mumbles is so Swansea she’s even turned down an offer from fellow A-lister Ryan Reynolds.
The actress, who has brand new Amazon Prime series Kill Jackie out next month, appeared on Heart radio with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston where she was asked about an invite to Wrexham AFC. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
Appearing on the radio breakfast show Theakston said to the Welsh star: “I want to talk about Hollywood and Welsh football teams.” Holden then continued: “Is it true you were asked to go on Welcome to Wrexham and you absolutely, categorically said no?”
The 56-year-old star of Wednesday and Chicago explained she turned Wrexham co-owner Reynolds down “many times”.
“I wasn’t asked once. I was asked many times,” she said. “It’s really hard to explain to Americans that I am from Swansea and I was brought up with Swansea City and my uncle Bobby was director of the Swans when John Toshack took us to the Premiership – I was in the front seat of the parade.
“I have been a lifelong Swansea City fan. I can’t go to Wrexham.
“I can’t even go to Wrexham to tell them how much I love Swansea. I think they’d throw bricks at me in the street.”
Theakston then tried even more to elicit a reaction by adding: “Cardiff are your real rival. That’s the derby.”
Zeta-Jones shut down the footy chat by saying: “I’m saying nothing about Cardiff. That’s just a 25-minute bus ride.
“I’ve got to keep everyone happy.
“Swansea City is my team.”
Kill Jackie sees Zeta-Jones play drug dealer-turned art dealer Jackie Price whose luxurious but boring existence is disturbed by a snap decision resulting in an elite squad of assassins tracking her down.
