Chico 2.0 Part One Released August 21 on Digital

Release and production

The first part of Chico 2.0 was released on digital platforms on August 21. The project was produced by Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) with Felipe Poeta as musical director and producer and Alê Siqueira as musical producer, under Universal Music Brasil. The release features 13 artists who reinterpret 10 songs.

Songs and historical notes

The recordings revisit works by original songwriter Chico Buarque, including Construção from 1971, O Que Será (À Flor da Terra) from 1976 co-written with Milton Nascimento, and Cálice from 1973. Cálice had microphones turned off at Phono 73 and its official recording was released in 1978 featuring Milton Nascimento. VANDAL called it “voice of the streets of Salvador” and Preto Zezé said it is “not a nostalgic revival”.

Timeline and credits

The second part of Chico 2.0 is scheduled for release in October. The project credits Central Única das Favelas (CUFA), Felipe Poeta, Alê Siqueira and Universal Music Brasil, and the first part is available on digital platforms in Brazil and Salvador.
