Cody Walker is sharing his thoughts on how his late brother, Paul Walker, is portrayed in the upcoming movie, Fast Forever, the 11th and final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.
If you recall, Cody and their other brother, Caleb, served as stand-ins for Paul in Furious 7 as the late actor died before the movie finished filming.
Last summer, Vin Diesel said that Paul‘s character, Brian O’Connor, would make a return for the final film.
In a new interview, Cody shared that he wouldn’t be stepping in as a stand-in for his brother this time, and thinks his niece and Paul‘s daughter, Meadow Walker, should be the one to decide how he is portrayed in the upcoming movie.
“My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father,” he shared with Entertainment Weekly. “I would not be interested in doing that again. I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids.”
“But if they want to do that, if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb. AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that,” he continued. “There’s years of footage that was never used from these other Fast films. They’re the best in the business, they can figure that out.”
When Vin Diesel announced Brian O’Connor would reunite with his character Dominic Toretto, Cody was there with him, but now he doesn’t know “what to expect there.”
“I talked to Vin, and when it comes to this whole process, he gets very ethereal; it’s a lot of weight,” Cody told EW. “The guy is incredible, he’s extremely gifted, he takes this very seriously, and there’s a mountain on Vin’s shoulders. He wants this to be the best one and as good as it can be because it’s the final [one].”
If you missed it, Vin recently said the Fast Forever script is “the best script I have read in decades.” The movie is currently slated for a March 17, 2028 release.
Just last month, stars of The Fast and the Furious reunited for a special screening of the first movie to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
