The actor explores how errors in British courts have sent the innocent to prison
Year: 2026
The actor Will Mellor brings a convincing sense of outrage to this five-part true-crime series, in which he explores how mistakes by police and the courts lead to people going to prison for years for crimes they didn’t commit.
The first case is that of British woman Angela Cannings, who was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her 18-week-old son in 2002 on the testimony of a single expert witness. The remaining cases are mostly British too and, in order, unpick the wrongful convictions of Andy Malkinson (for rape in 2004), Justin Plummer (for the murder of a woman in 1998) and Sam Hallam, who was just 17 when he was sent to prison for murder in 2004. He spent seven years there before his conviction was finally overturned.
In every episode, Mellor registers his outrage at the cases, speaking to experts to understand what went wrong. The focus switches to the US in the final episode, which details the case of the Central Park 5. (Five episodes)
