Coventry kebab shop once again recognised as one of the best in the country

A Coventry restaurant has just been named – again – as one of the best in the country. Istanbul has once again been named a semi-finalist in the British Kebab Awards.

The takeaway and restaurant made it all the way to the finals of the awards last year.

And this year is extra special as the awards celebrate their 15th year.

Ibrahim Doğuş, Founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “Reaching our semi-finals is a genuine achievement, and in our milestone 15th year it is a proud moment for Coventry and the hard-working families behind these businesses, who are part of the fabric of their communities.”

The winners are decided by public vote and announced at a gala ceremony on Tuesday, February 23, at Park Plaza in London.

Industry estimates value the UK kebab sector at around £2.8 billion a year, supporting some 200,000 jobs across more than 20,000 outlets and serving 1.3 million kebabs a day — the nation’s fourth most popular takeaway.

Customers seem just as happy with Istanbul as the judges. It has a 4.1 rating on Google Reviews with recent visitors praising the ‘delicious’ food that’s ‘worth the price’

One customer said: “We had a wonderful dinner at Istanbul restaurant. The staff were extremely attentive and genuinely friendly, which made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Teh service was impressively fast without feeling rushed.

“The doner kebab was easily the best in the area, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. All of the food was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious.”
