Coventry pub to temporarily close as Stonegate issues update on its future

A Coventry pub is set to temporarily close but will re-open again, the company that runs it has revealed.

Concerns had been raised about the future of The Festival pub after its landlord announced she was stepping away.

The pub has a long tradition within the community as it was built and named by its then owners Mitchells and Butlers to commemorate the 1962 Coventry Cathedral Festival celebrating the consecration of the new cathedral in the city.

Stonegate, which owns the pub, has confirmed that it will temporarily close as it looks for a new landlord.

But the company told CoventryLive that the plan is for it to re-open ‘as soon as possible’.

A Stonegate spokesperson said: “The Festival is not closing permanently.

“While the pub may close for a short period as we transition to a new publican, we remain committed to the site and look forward to welcoming guests back as soon as possible.”
