A well-known name in Coventry’s fairground circuit is reviving a beloved tradition this September – and this year’s event promises to be even bigger than the last.
Barker’s Fun Fair is returning to Hearsall Common with all rides priced at just £1, with the dodgems available for £1.50 per car.
The family-run fairground built its reputation across Coventry on its remarkably low prices, with rides costing just 50p before the COVID-19 pandemic. In the aftermath of the pandemic, Barker’s, like much of the fairground industry, was forced to adapt, with rides running at £2 in recent years.
Now, for its final fair of the year, Barker’s is reinstating the £1 Fair while also using the occasion to express its gratitude to all those who have supported the family business throughout another hectic year.
Olivia Barker from Barker’s Amusements said: “Coventry has always been a really special place for Barker’s, and we’ve got a lot of great memories from our time here.
“Years ago, we were known for our 50p rides, and that became a big part of what Barker’s was known for in Coventry, we were known as ‘The cheapest fair in Coventry’. Obviously, since COVID, the fairground industry has changed considerably and we’ve had to move with the times.
“As this is our final fair of the year, we wanted to do something a little different and give something back to everyone who has supported us throughout the year.
“We want everyone to be able to enjoy all the fun of the fair, and by bringing our rides down to just £1 , we hope we can make the event as inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible. Entry and parking are also completely free, so even if rides aren’t your thing, you can still come along, enjoy the atmosphere, grab some fairground food, have a wander around and soak up the sights and sounds of the fair.
“This year’s fair is bigger than last year, and we’re really looking forward to bringing even more to Hearsall Common and welcoming everyone back to the fairground.”
