Even in the Divergent multiverse, Tris and Four are still connected!
The Sixth Faction is and all-new book in the Divergent franchise from author Veronica Roth, where, in an alternate universe, heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior picks Abnegation instead of Dauntless as her faction.
While Tris is taking on a different adventure, it doesn’t mean her original love interest Tobias “Four” Eaton is out of the picture.
“Have you seen the video I made where I just zoom in slowly on his face?” Veronica revealed exclusively to SYFY Wire. “It’s on the cover, but he’s very small. Yes, Four is in it.”
The first Divergent book came out in 2011, with its sequel Insurgent hitting shelves in 2012, followed by Allegiant in 2013. The 38-year-old author revealed why she wanted to return to her literary world in a new novel.
“It began as a pretty personal project,” she said. “It’s been 15 years since Divergent came out. Because it was such a powerful influence in my life, it’s both good and bad—and I carried the bad around probably more than I should have. I wanted a way to make it lighter, and the way I decided to approach that is to make something new.”
What Happens in The Sixth Faction?
In the new book, Tris “stands on the brink of a decision every person in her world must make: five factions, five futures, five lives,” a press release teases.
In the original Divergent trilogy, Tris lives in a dystopian Chicago, where society is divided into five “factions” based on human virtues: Abnegation (selflessness), Erudite (intelligence), Amity (peace), Candor (honesty) and Dauntless (bravery). There are also the Factionless, who live in poverty.
Each citizen undergoes a test which determines which faction they should be in, but Tris’ comes back inconclusive, which means she the titular “Divergent”—leading her to choose a life in Dauntless. However, in The Sixth Faction, she chooses to continue living in Abgnegation, the faction she grew up in, setting off a brand-new chain of events.
The Sixth Faction is out Oct. 6.
