Donald Trump’s controversial White House ballroom project has received a major boost.
Construction on the massive project was previously paused by a court after a legal challenge from a preservation group, but the Supreme Court has now dismissed the challenge.
Trump has since praised the decision on social media, calling the group’s challenge “baseless.”
Last year, Trump’s massive ballroom project at the White House hit a major roadblock after the National Trust for Historic Preservation sued to have the project halted.
Although construction on the project continued with the aid of a previous ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court, issued just hours before construction would have been required to stop the previous month, the U.S. Supreme Court has now ruled that the organization that filed the lawsuit lacked legal standing.
“We have repeatedly held that mere offense, disagreement, or distaste does not qualify as a concrete and particularized injury” required to sue, said the court in its eight-page ruling.
This referred to the organization’s claim that one of its members, Alison Hoagland, felt that the project was interfering with her ability to appreciate the White House as an architectural historian.
Supreme Court Avoids Ruling On Whether Trump’s Ballroom Is Legal
The court ruling seemed to steer clear of the project’s legality, which the suing organization had made a core part of its filing and which many critics have raised concerns about since the project began.
However, despite ongoing litigation in the lower court, the ruling now allows Trump to proceed with the project at full speed.
The set completion time is summer 2028, but construction has been moving rapidly, which may bring the timing forward.
According to a filing submitted by the Trump administration to the Supreme Court, the president had in place a 250-person crew working 20-hour days, seven days per week, and the project was at “65% complete in its entirety.”
Trump Hails Supreme Court Ruling As Ballroom Project Moves Forward
The court’s decision elicited praise from Trump in a lengthy social media post following the ruling.
“I am pleased to report that the United States Supreme Court has just ruled in favor of the Ballroom/Military Complex being built without any further contingency, doubt, or threat,” Trump began.
He called the project “one of the greatest ever constructed in Washington, D.C.,” adding that the entire country will be proud of it when completed.
The president also took a swipe at the National Trust, calling the lawsuit “baseless” and claiming that the organization has no affiliation with the U.S. government.

Trump’s joy over the decision meant sorrow for his opponents in the suit, who themselves expressed their disappointment in a statement.
“We are deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court’s ruling today and respectfully disagree with the majority’s opinion on standing,” said Brent Leggs, president and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Adding to his remarks, Leggs noted that the court’s 5-4 decision steered clear of addressing whether the project was, in fact, lawful.
“It is noteworthy that the majority did not weigh in on whether the ballroom project was in fact legal,” he stated.
Trump Has Scored A String Of Supreme Court Wins
Trump’s win at the Supreme Court comes as no surprise, given that he has piled up a series of significant victories on the court’s emergency docket since returning to power in 2025.
Apart from the ruling allowing construction of the ballroom, Trump was previously granted the go-ahead to implement a sweeping executive order concerning new mail-in voting rules.
The court also allowed the Trump administration in May to begin processing military service separations for anyone with a diagnosis or symptoms consistent with gender dysphoria, a condition associated with transgender individuals.
The ruling also indicated that transgender Americans could no longer join any branch of the U.S. military.
