Welsh TV drama fans will be thrilled to hear there is an exciting new Amazon Prime series starring Catherine Zeta-Jones this autumn.
The 56-year-old actress from Swansea will be starring in Kill Jackie as a flamboyant globe-trotter named Jackie Price who is attempting to remain incognito after fleeing a “dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer”.
Following the release of the teaser trailer fans were distracted by one key thing. Hundreds of comments discussed how Catherine was “finally” using her native Welsh accent in a role and people were thrilled to hear it.
More often than not over the years the actress had adopted an American accent for her various characters as she is best known for her roles in The Mask of Zorro, Chicago, and more recently the Netflix series Wednesday where she plays Morticia Addams.
Kill Jackie will mark the first time that she has used her Welsh accent in an on-screen role. It is assumed she will also be using her Welsh accent in the adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ A Visit to Grandpa’s where she will star alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins. After watching the Kill Jackie trailer one fan said: “Catherine Zeta-Jones using her Welsh accent in an action show?! I’m in!!”
Another added: “Finally a film where CZJ is showing up for the Welsh! Come on son!”
A third said: “Something about her using Welsh own accent makes her acting look better, more naturalistic. I’m looking forward to watching this.”
Meanwhile one fan said: “I had no idea that’s how she actually sounded…”
When the series was announced last year Catherine said she was “thrilled” to be behind and in front of the camera as she also takes on an executive producer role.
The actress also returned to her hometown of Swansea where portions of the filming occurred.
