The Perfect Lie starts with a group of beautiful people witnessing a tragedy. A house burns, and they all stare in shock as the uncontrollable flames engulf the fancy villa. Karen is the latest member to join a “dinner club” – the series’ official title – that’s known for an extravagant lifestyle and reckless behavior.
As their children bond, the parents also indulge in a world of excess that ultimately leads to devastating consequences. When the police begin the investigation into the fire, Karen reveals key details about the tight-knit group she has become part of. Things are not what they seem in this posh Dutch community. In the same vein as Harlan Coben’s mysteries, the truth about the fatal incident is slowly unveiled as each character gets their own episode.
The Perfect Lie is a Dutch production based on Saskia Noort’s novel The Dinner Club. It was created by Dorien Goertzen (The Neighbors), and stars Loes Haverkort, Teun Luijkx, Remko Vrijdag, Charlie-Chan Dagelet, Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen, and Rifka Lodeizen, among others. The series consists of seven episodes, and directors include Dana Nechushtan and Margien Rogaar.
‘The Perfect Lie’ Is the Latest Mystery to Hit Big on Netflix
The series premiered on September 10, 2026, and in just three days, it became the biggest non-English series on Netflix, racking up 4.1 million views in the period from September 7 to September 13. Even though it hasn’t garnered enough reviews from critics to earn a Rotten Tomatoes score, the reception remains somewhat positive.
Critic Joel Keller for Decider says, “The Perfect Lie is less annoying to us than what we usually see in the ‘rich people being awful’ genre. But what promises to be an intricate thriller is done a disservice by a lack of depth in the storytelling.” User @RT02832092 writes, “This was a really brilliant series with the intimate scenes you won’t easily see again, excellent acting with huge intrigue and intensity. Fascinating series and we know from the ending that there WILL be a second season and I would watch that.” As appealing as a second season sounds, The Perfect Lie still hasn’t been renewed and for now, it remains a one-season series.
According to the latest update to the charts, The Perfect Lie remains one of Netflix’s biggest shows at the moment. The global charts place the show at the No. 5 spot, ranking below The Gentlemen and Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and above The Doll and The Scandal. On the U.S. rankings, The Perfect Lie sits at the No. 6 spot.
