During their first year at Basgiath War College, rider cadets have to face threshing, which is the day that they must bond with a dragon. If they fail, they will either have to repeat the entire year, or they are dead. It’s nerve-wracking to come face-to-face with a dragon, which is why so many panic and don’t get another go at it. Those who pass have a companion for life and can become riders. At threshing, Violet bonded with Tairn and Andarna. Now, with the release of Threshing Day, it’s time to see how it went for other characters in Fourth Wing.

Until recently, it was unknown which characters would appear in Threshing Day. This week, Rebecca Yarros has been sharing quotes from each story on Instagram, challenging fans to figure out which dragon might have said it. The next day, she returns to her post and reveals who the quote belongs to, slowly unveiling all Threshing Day characters.

Confirmed Threshing Day characters

  • “You have yet to earn a first name while your last overpowers it.” Marbh, Brennan’s dragon
  • “Do you give allegiance to the codex while you ride the edge of Malek’s doorstep?” Cath, Dain’s dragon
  • “I will not attach myself to another rider who cannot adapt to loss.” Sliseag, Sawyer’s dragon
  • “Would you like me to fly over and slice that sexual tension for you?” Glane, Imogen’s dragon

Xaden and Sgaeyl’s threshing day chapter was revealed alongside the book’s announcement post on Jul. 15. Yarros mentions that, as usual, Xaden’s POV will be available on her website for free. This makes it unclear whether he will count as part of the 13 character stories in the book or if it’ll be part of a bonus scene like in previous books.

Besides Xaden, Rebecca Yarros has only confirmed the appearance four riders and their respective dragons. The latest quote is: “If I am five, then you are four.” Fans in the comments section believe that Aotrom said this to Ridoc, as these characters are known for providing comedic relief in the series. Readers will soon find out more when Threshing Day launches on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026.
