The Gandhi Jayanti weekend saw nearly eight films arriving in theatres, with “Don’t Trouble the Trouble” (DTTT), “Thella Kaagitham”, and “Sigma” emerging as the notable releases. However, none of these films made any significant impact at the box office.
Fahadh Faasil-starrer “Don’t Trouble the Trouble” was promoted aggressively by its producers, with prominent names such as NTR and SS Rajamouli lending their support. The promotional push helped the film generate curiosity and decent interest for the premiere shows, but it failed to sustain that momentum after release. Unfavourable reviews and negative talk on social media quickly affected its prospects.
With the producers of “Baahubali” and SS Rajamouli’s son S.S. Karthikeya associated with the project, audiences expected a bigger film or an unusual story. Instead, “Don’t Trouble the Trouble” turned out to be a relatively ordinary entertainer that could have been made with a local star such as Allari Naresh. The film therefore failed to meet the expectations created around its team.
Interestingly, the film did not make much impact in Kerala either, despite Fahadh Faasil playing the lead. The combination of weak word of mouth and underwhelming content resulted in a disappointing weekend.
“Sigma” turned out to be an outright disaster. Sundeep Kishan’s limited pulling power in the Telugu states meant that the film failed to register a meaningful opening. It performed slightly better in Tamil Nadu, primarily because it was directed by Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil superstar Vijay. However, even that curiosity did not translate into strong overall numbers.
Vijay’s fans did not turn up in significant numbers, while Sundeep Kishan currently does not command a strong theatrical market of his own. The film also received poor ratings and negative reactions from critics, leaving little scope for recovery. As a result, “Sigma” ended its opening weekend on a disappointing note.
“Thella Kaagitham” is a low-budget film that has a young talent like Harsh Roshan. While the climax received some appreciation, the film struggled to find an audience amid competition from the other releases.
Overall, the Gandhi Jayanti weekend turned out to be a disappointing one for these three notable releases. None of them managed to convert the holiday advantage into a meaningful theatrical run.
