With the sweltering summer now in the rear mirror, the days are getting shorter and shorter. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your garden in the evenings. All you need is a little light.
And while I don’t want to admit it just yet, Christmas is just around the corner and before you can say mistletoe, you’ll be thinking about how best to decorate your house.
So what you might well need is some quality lighting that a) doesn’t cost the earth and b) won’t pack up in the face of the first spell of inclement weather.
I got the chance to try out two sets of lights from LightingLegends, both relatively inexpensive and built to withstand British rain and snow, with an IP65 rating.
First off are the Festive Connect Net Outdoor Waterproof Warm White Lights (currently available for £39.99/£59.99 on the company’s website, depending on length), a line of fixed LED lights with, as the name suggests, a rather nice warm white glow.
The net design is a great choice for creating that classic festive look and is ideal for using along rooflines, guttering, eaves and fencing. They look the business, but one thing to note is that the power cable is 1.5m long, so depending on where you want them and if you don’t have an outside plug, you might need to use an extension.
You’ll find the same issue with the Festive Connect Icicle Outdoor LED Waterproof Warm White Lights ( £34.99 for 4.5m, £59.99 for 7.5m ), which are designed for longer stretches. Again, once set up, they look great.
Both sites are compatible with LightingLegends’ Elite Festoon range, including all accessories. The lights can be combined on the same run to create your own bespoke displays.
They’re both solid and do what they say on the tin. You might miss some of the fancy features like app integration, but if you want a solid set of lights that won’t let you down, they’re a fine choice.
